Azure Backup is the Azure-based service you can use to back up (or protect) and restore your data in the Microsoft cloud. Azure Backup replaces your existing on-premises or off-site backup solution with a reliable, secure, and cost-competitive cloud-based solution.

How does it Work?

Azure Backup offers multiple components that you download and deploy on the appropriate computer, server, or in the cloud. What you want to protect decides the component, also known as agent. All Azure Backup components (no matter whether you're protecting data on-premises or in the cloud) can be used to back up data to a Recovery Services vault in Azure.

An Azure VM gives you the flexibility of virtualization without having to buy and maintain the physical hardware that runs it. However, routine maintenance of the VM such as configuring, patching, and installing the software that runs on it is user’s responsibility. Azure virtual machines can be used in various ways. Some examples are:

  • Ease of Development, testing and debugging – Azure VMs offer a quick and easy way to create a computer with required configurations to build and test an application.
  • Applications in the cloud – Because demand for your application can fluctuate, it might make economic sense to run it on a VM in Azure. You pay for extra VMs when you need them and shut them down when you don’t.

  • While deploying a VM you can select its size out of a series of sizes that best fits your workload. The size determines the processing power, memory and storage capacity, among other things. You are billed based on the amount of time the VM is running and consuming its allocated resources.
